“Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times.” – Berta Lippert

Why did you want to become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I enjoy children. I continue teaching because I love how kids’ minds work. Watching them learn something new and apply it is very rewarding.

Why did you want to live and teach in Vietnam?

Vietnam chose me. I’ve taught other places but Vietnam felt like home immediately. I love the country, culture, and people. I hadn’t planned on staying so long but now this is my home.

Why is a strong foundation in early childhood education so important?

Early childhood education is so important because it sets your child up for all future learning. All fundamental skills are learned in kindergarten and built upon in later years. Sparking your child’s educational interests at an early age can help set the tone for other educational achievements.

What inspires you about teaching young children?

I have always loved learning and I love instilling a love for learning in my students. I believe if students can find a love for learning at an early age, it will benefit them as they continue to grow. Students like teachers who give them a safe place to explore the world around them and push them to think differently.

What do you enjoy about working at St. Mary’s?

I love being part of the St. Mary’s team. Everyone is friendly, helpful and our students are very hardworking.

What do you like to do when you aren’t teaching?

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, traveling, painting, making videos, listening to podcasts, and spending time with family and friends.

We’re so glad to have Colleen as a part of our team here at St. Mary’s!
