“Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning!”- Robert John Meehan
What brought you to the teaching profession?
I have always been passionate about teaching. I started teaching English after college and felt it was my calling ever since. When students reach the “Aha” moment, when they learn something challenging, it is the greatest reward you can experience. My purpose in life is to serve others and I am lucky to have found teaching as my career.
What do students learn in Second Grade?
Second grade is important because students are learning to show interest in the world around them, their vocabulary expands, and they are able to complete basic research projects on their own. In second grade, students are able to use capital letters correctly, write in complete sentences with appropriate punctuation, and write stories with a beginning, middle, and end.
Why do you think technology is an important part of today’s elementary education?
Technology in the classroom is important and crucial for increasing student engagement. Students who use technology may take greater pride in their work and have more confidence in their abilities. We are lucky that we are able to use technology in the classroom every day or else distance learning might be very challenging!
What do you like about working at St. Mary’s?
I have worked all around the world at various schools, St. Mary’s has been my favorite, by far! The community, administration, teachers, parents, and students all make St. Mary’s a special place.
What superpower would you have if you could have one?
If I could have one superpower, it would be super strength. I would be able to save people who are in trouble or need help. For instance, if a baby was stuck underneath a car, I would be able to lift the car up with one finger to help the family!
We’re so glad to have Micah as a part of our team here at St. Mary’s!
