In the past, a child’s education was divided into different spheres. Schools were for teaching academic subjects. Families were for teaching respect, responsibility, and discipline. Cultural and religious institutions were for teaching values and faith. But today, many families are led by two working parents, busy lifestyles leave less time for outside activities, and children spend more time in schools with extended days and after-school activities. Additionally, character education, resilience, and emotional intelligence have been proven to be so integral to future success in higher learning and adulthood. In response to all of this, schools have stepped up to teach more than just academics.

At St. Mary’s, our Core Values (R.E.A.C.H – Responsibility, Equality, Achievement, Confidence, Honesty) are an integral part of everything we do.

RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibility means being dependable, making good choices, and taking accountability for your actions. A responsible person looks out for the well-being of others and understands we all have a part to play in making the world a better place.

EQUALITY

Equality is about ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and talents.

ACHIEVEMENT

Achievement means improving academic outcomes for students to ensure their success in school and life.

CONFIDENCE

Confidence is about believing in your own abilities. It encourages students to take risks, express their creativity in classroom assignments and invest in the work they produce at school. A self-confident person is more likely to be optimistic and motivated and have a “can do” attitude.

HONESTY

Honesty is being truthful in what you say and do.

A St. Mary’s education is so much more than just academics. Through our emphasis on a values-based education, students at St. Mary’s move through their lives with a strong foundation of their own responsibility, the importance of putting forth their best effort, understanding that each of us has the ability and opportunity to find our own paths to success, the confidence to do what they set out to do and a strong sense of honesty and integrity that will serve them well in all aspects of their lives.
