St. Mary’s Guidance Wrap Up – November 2021

This November, our monthly value was SAFETY. Since we have been online from the beginning of the year, we explored personal safety as well as online safety, using Google’s Be Internet Awesome Curriculum. So many amazing things have happened and I am so excited to share them with all of you!

First, we talked about personal safety, including potentially dangerous situations. Our lower elementary students identified whether a particular scenario was safe or not, while our upper elementary students talked about things that they thought they should do when they face a bully or a stranger.

In our first assembly, we discussed as an entire school how we could handle our devices safely at home, with tips from our IT director, Mr. Henry Abbey. Our Grizzlies had no problem with identifying the safe thing to do. Great job, Grizzlies!

Then came the most exciting part of the month: Learning about Online Safety! Our Grizzlies learned how to be Internet Smart, Strong, and Alert. They learned how to think carefully before they shared, create strong passwords, and learn how to identify scams as well as fake identities on the Internet! They were also extremely excited with the Interland game from the Be Internet Awesome curriculum. Here are some of our Grizzlies with their Interland certificates! Good job guys!

Something amazing also happened behind the scenes too. C.F.C Vietnam, Google’s partner to deliver Be Internet Awesome in Vietnam, offered our teachers a training session to better understand and implement the program.

In our last assembly, Mr. Henry Abbey joined our assembly to talk directly to our students about the importance of internet safety. Students learned that Mr. Henry is an expert who can help us solve problems related to the Internet, our accounts, our devices, and he is a trusted adult that we can always come to when we need extra help. Thank you so much, Mr. Henry!

And finally, Donna and Darlene have returned this month to illustrate 5 things that we can do to Be Internet Awesome! Check them out here!
